bee exhibition
01 - Overview
Declining Bee Populations is an educational exhibition exploring the environmental pressures contributing to bee decline and the larger impact pollinator loss can have on ecosystems. The project translates research into an approachable visual experience through exhibition graphics, information design, illustration, and editorial design.
02 - Exhibition Design
The exhibition was designed around two large-scale panels that guide viewers through the causes and consequences of declining bee populations. A dark visual environment, bold typography, scientific imagery, and hexagonal elements inspired by honeycomb structures create a cohesive system while helping organize complex information.
03 - Clock
The clock concept translates bee population decline into a familiar visual metaphor: time running out. Rather than presenting the issue solely through statistics, the piece uses the recognizable form of a clock to create a sense of urgency and encourage viewers to consider how continued environmental pressures may affect pollinator populations over time.
The honeycomb structure transforms the traditional clock face into a visual reference to the bees' habitat. Individual cells contain the hour markers, integrating the function of a clock directly into the environmental concept.
The melting honeycomb represents the deterioration of a once-stable environment. As the structure breaks down across the clock face, the visual shifts from an organized hive into a damaged landscape.
Bees gradually move from the active hive toward the deteriorating environment before accumulating at the bottom of the composition. This progression visualizes population loss and reinforces the consequences represented by the collapsing hive.
04 - Exhibition Book
The exhibition expanded into an editorial book that documents the research, visual development, and final design system. The layouts balance photography, illustration, data, and typography while maintaining the visual language established for the exhibition.
05 - Final Outcome
Declining Bee Populations developed into a cohesive visual system spanning exhibition graphics, conceptual design, illustration, information design, and editorial design. Across each format, I focused on translating a complex environmental issue into an experience that feels accessible, engaging, and visually connected. View the full exhibition book.
